The part of Doxie parenthood no one wants to think about…

Hello Reader,

If you’ve been in the Ravendox world for a while, you know how much we adore this breed.

Dachshunds are loyal, hilarious, smart as a whip, and yes, full of opinions.

But they’re also prone to a few health issues that can sneak up on even the most loving owners.

And we don’t say that to scare you.
We say it so you can feel empowered.

Because most of the biggest health risks are manageable.

You just need to know what to look for, and what steps to take now to protect your pup for the long haul.

Here are a few of the most common concerns in dachshunds:

IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease)
That iconic long body makes them extra prone to spinal injuries. IVDD is serious, but often preventable.

To help prevent this, use stairs → (this helps break up any calcifications that have built up in their spine), avoid jumping, and help your Doxie maintain a healthy weight. Those tiny legs aren’t meant to launch off couches, even if they think they’re superheroes.

Obesity
Even a few extra pounds can put serious strain on a Doxie’s back and joints.

One of the ways to help this is, portion control, high-quality food, and daily movement matter more than you think. We’re happy to share what we feed ours (and why PawTree is our go-to!).

Dental Disease
Small breeds are notorious for dental issues, and Doxies are no exception.

Regular brushing, Plaque Control dental chews like our faves from PawTree, and cleanings can make a huge difference. Bad breath isn’t just gross, it’s often a sign something’s brewing.

Ear Infections
Those adorable floppy ears can trap moisture and debris, creating the perfect environment for infection.

You can combat this with weekly ear checks and cleanings are a simple way to prevent major issues. One of our fave products for this is PawTree Ear Wash and Dry.

We believe that talking about the hard stuff is part of loving your dog well.

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about being informed and supported. That’s what this Ravendox family is for.

We’ve got you.

Hey Reader, Most people see a dachshund and think “lap dog.”And yes, they do love to burrow under the blankets and nap on your feet. But don’t let that fool you.
