Grooming Secrets Your Doxie Will Love

Hello Reader,

We know how easy it is to go down a rabbit hole of dog grooming tips online, one minute you’re looking for a brush, the next you’re watching a dachshund get a blueberry facial in a fluffy robe.

But let’s talk real-life grooming for your doxie.

Whether your pup is smooth, longhaired, or wire-coated, their grooming needs are pretty manageable when you understand what actually helps (and what’s just hype).

Here’s what we’ve learned after years of hands-on care:

✔️ You need a quality slicker brush or grooming mitt. Even smooth coats benefit from weekly brushing to keep shedding down and skin healthy.

You don’t need doggie perfume, paw polish, or blowouts. Your dachshund is naturally fabulous, trust us.

✔️ Regular nail trims and ear checks are non-negotiable. Their long backs make it important to avoid slips caused by overgrown nails, and their floppy ears can trap moisture, making them prone to infection.

Bathing too often is definitely not necessary. Once every few weeks (unless they find a mud puddle) is plenty. Too much shampooing can dry out their skin.

✔️ Tooth care matters more than you think. Doxies are prone to dental issues, and regular brushing or dental chews help more than any spa day ever will.

And here’s something most people don’t realize → grooming isn’t just about hygiene, it’s bonding.

Those quiet moments brushing your pup or gently cleaning their ears help build trust.

It tells them → “I care for every part of you.”

If your current dachshund is already a part of your home, we hope this helps you refine your routine.

And if you're getting ready to welcome one soon…

Hi Reader, Some dogs were bred to sit. Your Doxie was bred to dig, chase, and conquer… and that history still shapes who they are today.Dachshunds weren’t bred to be polite. They were bred to go nose-first into dark tunnels, take on angry badgers, and win. Their short legs? Designed to dig. That long body? Built for underground chases.Their bold spirit? Let’s just say hesitation wasn’t an option when you were face-to-face with a wild animal. This breed was built with a job to do, and that...

Hey Reader, Most people see a dachshund and think “lap dog.”And yes, they do love to burrow under the blankets and nap on your feet. But don’t let that fool you. This breed was built with purpose, and their legacy of drive, loyalty, and intelligence continues to show up in some pretty incredible ways, especially when it comes to emotional support and service roles. While they aren’t the most common breed for traditional task-trained service work, many dachshunds thrive as Emotional Support...

Hello Reader, Dachshunds are SO unique, and their uniqueness is exactly what made us fall in love. It’s also exactly why we know these dogs can bring so much joy into the right family’s life… when that family’s prepared, supported, and given a pup with the right start. Part of what we want you to know is that while yes, we’re breeding these one-of-a-kind little cuties… we’re not just another backyard breeder or Facebook seller. We’ve spent hours, days, weeks, years just learning the ins and...
